Standing on the Promises

I know so many people who are struggling right now. Fellow Believers, strong in their faith, who are facing serious trials. Physical. Relational. Financial. Emotional. My heart hurts for them in ways I can’t describe.

I want to be a fixer. To heal. To rescue. To provide. To comfort. To protect. But I feel limited in what I can do.

Thankfully, God is not limited. He can do the impossible. I’m so grateful for God’s promises in his Word. I can go to these promises and read them again. I can pray them for my loved ones with confidence, knowing that the One who has promised will be faithful to fulfill his word.

He Heals Us

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.  Psalms 103:2-3 NLT

He Rescues Us

Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.  Psalms 50:15 NLT

He Provides for Us

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and he will give you everything you need.  Luke 12:31 NLT

He Protects Us

But the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 NASB

He Gives Us Rest

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. ”  Matthew 11:28 NLT

He Gives Us Peace

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.  Isaiah 26:3 ESV

He Guides Us

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”   Isaiah 30:21 NIV

He Gives Us Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  James 1:5 NIV

He Delivers Us

When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.  Psalms 34:17 ESV

He Fights for Us

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”  Exodus 14:14 NIV

He Helps Us Stand

He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along.  Psalms 40:2 NLT

He Keeps Us Safe

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord , will keep me safe.  Psalms 4:8 NLT

He Is With Us

“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”  Isaiah 43:2

He Never Leaves Us

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.  Deuteronomy 31:8

He Cares For Us

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. Psalms 55:22 NLT

There are some things we can do to help those we love who are struggling. Know what God promises us and share that hope with those in distress. Look for ways to be helpful and ease their burden. Pray consistently on their behalf.  Be a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on.

When my heart is broken over things in the lives of loved ones that I can’t fix, I can turn that pain over to God. I trust that He knows much better than I do what they need.

And while I can’t solve everyone’s problems or heal their sickness or protect them from fiery trials, I can clearly point them toward the One who can.

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.     Hebrews 10:23

A New Wardrobe

In Colossians 3, Paul talks about our new life in Christ. He tells us that we are to take off the old nature that was led by worldly desires. In place of that, we are to “clothes ourselves” with our new nature. And he lists these items of spiritual clothing in Colossians 3:12-14.
